What is Indian Head Massage?
As the name suggests, it originated in India. It uses and adapts classic Swedish massage techniques for treating the scalp, neck, face, shoulders & upper back & arms.
It’s a more gentle practice than deep tissue or sports massage, but is very effective at releasing stress & tension held in the most common areas of the body - the shoulders & upper back.

What to expect during treatment

My practice focuses on the upper back from just below the shoulder blades, over the tops of the shoulders, neck, upper arms, face & scalp.
Although this can be done over clothes, it is most effective direct to skin with light cosmetic grade massage oil.
As pictured, a clean towel is provided for comfort, privacy and to keep any oil off of your clothes.
Wearing a vest top and / or bra if applicable to you, is best so that the straps can easily come off the shoulder & you will be given privacy to change.
Treatment is 45 minutes and a short consultation is included before to take your medical history and answer any questions that you may have.

It’s really important for you to discuss with me any health conditions you have, see a specialist or take medications for, prior to treatment to ensure it’s safe for you, particularly if they directly affect the treatment area.
Some conditions may require GP permission or you to sign an indemnity form prior to treatment and can include: spinal/muscular, heart, blood pressure, vascular, or neurological conditions, arthritis, cancer.
Please contact me for more information or advice prior to the appointment if you are unsure..
Aftercare
After treatment reactions can sometimes occur and these are natural responses as the body heals and rebalances and should subside within 24hours.
They may include:
Redness on the treatment areas; tiredness; muscular aches or headaches with gradual relief from symptoms as the nerve and muscle fibres are released; heightened emotions or positive mood changes; increased bowel or bladder movements; mucus release or runny nose; increased thirst; spots on the skin.

I advise drinking 6-8 glasses of water to flush out toxins; avoid eating a large meal, caffeine, tea or coffee or doing high intensity exercise for several hours after treatment.
And Rest!!!
